LokRoll is a Swiss joint-stock company which holds locomotives as property protected by bankruptcy law and leases them to state railways and other rail freight companies by means of long-term lease agreements. The maintenance of the locomotives is carried out by the producer or the lessees of the locomotives.
Most European rail freight operators today still have a large number of locomotives in their fleet that are more than 25 years old. Their renewal and modernisation require substantial investments. The lack of financial resources of the rail freight companies thus opens up attractive investment opportunities in the financing and leasing of locomotives.
