“We believe in the ideas of freedom,” says Federico Sturzenegger.
Over decades, a powerful power structure had developed in Argentina.
It was state laws that secured the privileges of a select few in Argentina, said Prof. Dr. Federico Sturzenegger, Minister for Deregulation and State Reform of the Republic of Argentina, during the Reichmuth & Co Lecture No. 27 at the University of Zurich.
The state systematically sided with unions, entrepreneurs, and politicians. For the majority of the Argentine population, this meant higher prices, fewer opportunities, and stagnation. President Javier Milei therefore appointed him as minister to implement a comprehensive deregulation program.
Under his leadership, more than 4,000 laws were rewritten or repealed between July 2024 and July 2025. This was necessary in order to break up cartels and monopolies and breathe new life into Argentina’s market economy. In the long term, the aim is now to regain the confidence of the markets in Argentina through restrictive fiscal policy, tax relief, and consistent deregulation of the state. This is because he and the entire Milei government are convinced that only freedom can bring back prosperity to Argentina and its people.
Watch the video to find out what principles Prof. Dr. Federico Sturzenegger bases his policies on and how he is implementing the deregulation program.
